Classification and dimensions of hex nuts

August 06, 2021

Hex Nuts are divided into three types: I, II and thin according to their nominal thickness. Nuts above level 8 are divided into two types, type I and type II.

The type II hex nut is relatively thick, and is often used in occasions where assembly and disassembly are often required.

I-type nut refers to a common hexagon nut with a nominal height m ≥ 0.8D of the nut.

?? The height of the type II nut is higher than that of the type 1 nut, and its type size should conform to GB / T6175. The purpose of adding a type II nut is twofold: one is to obtain a relatively inexpensive nut without heat treatment by increasing the height of the nut.

Because class 8 I-type nuts with D ≤ M16 do not need to be heat treated, in class 8 nuts, type 2 nuts are only used for specifications of D> M16 ~ 39.

Obviously, the I-type nut without heat treatment cannot meet the mechanical performance requirements of a 9-level nut. The Other purpose of specifying a type II nut is to obtain a tougher grade 12 nut. As the height of the nut increases, the guaranteed stress index can be achieved at a lower quenching and tempering hardness, so the toughness of the nut is increased.

Classified by pitch: standard teeth, regular teeth, fine teeth, very fine teeth and anti-tooth.

?? Classified by material: stainless steel Hexagonal Nut and carbon steel hexagonal nut, copper hexagonal nut, iron hexagonal nut.

?? Classified by thickness: hexagonal thick nuts and hexagonal thin nuts.

?? Classified by use: hot-melt copper nuts, hot-pressed copper nuts, embedded copper nuts and ultrasonic copper nuts

Hex nut as a standard part, it should have its own universal specifications

?? For hexagonal nuts, commonly used standards are: GB52, GB6170, GB6172 and DIN934, the main differences between them are: the thickness of GB6170 is thicker than GB52, GB6172 and DIN934, commonly known as thick nuts. The other is the difference between the opposite sides. In the M8 nut series, the opposite sides of DIN934, GB6170, and GB6172 are 13MM, which is 1MM smaller than the opposite side of GB52, which is 14MM, and the M10 nut. GB6170 and GB6172.
